The Internet group Meta is strictly against large technology groups participating in the costs for the expansion of the European mobile and broadband networks. “The proposals for network charges are based on false premises,” wrote two senior managers at the Facebook parent company in a blog post. They failed to appreciate the value that content providers bring to the digital ecosystem, nor the multi-billion dollar investments required to do so.
The managers put the investments at 880 billion dollars (816 billion euros) worldwide in the past few years. In addition, network charges would not solve the financial problems of the telecom companies.
